Thom Bennett

President and Advisor

A leading entrepreneur in the Ottawa area since the mid-1970s, Thom has built Bennett Insurance into one of Ottawa’s most successful employee benefit agencies. Year after year, Thom has achieved Canada-wide recognition for his charismatic and highly effective management and sales style. He was awarded the title of Large Group Producer nine years in a row, and Small Group Producer five years in a row. He has also achieved “Life Member” status of the President’s Council for his long record of consistent integrity, professionalism, dedication to clients and to the financial services industry. In addition to his duties at Bennett Insurance, Thom keeps in close contact with the community. He has sat on the Boards of several local and national organizations, including VIA Rail, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa, the Ontario Lottery Corporation, and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Shane Bennett

Vice-President and Advisor

Shane joined the Bennett Insurance team in 2003, and today helms the business alongside his father Thom. For more than a decade-and-a-half, Shane has helped hundreds (if not thousands) of business and individual clients across Ottawa by balancing his thorough knowledge of benefit plan design with extensive experience in program implementation. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Shane holds his life insurance license and serves as an employee benefits consultant. He is active in the community, having volunteered to multiple organizations and served on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Congress Centre.

Janice Clost

Senior Director, Group Benefits

Throughout her exceptional career in the insurance industry, Janice has worked closely with employee benefits clients, providing them outstanding service and solving administrative issues Prior to joining Bennett Insurance in 2003, Janice spent 17 years working in employee benefits with one of Canada’s leading insurance companies. She has the industry designation of Health Insurance Associate, which helps her navigate the complexities of group business.

Ashley Johnston

Director, Corporate Management, Group Benefits & Retirement

Ashley began her career in the insurance industry in 2005 with one of the industry’s largest insurance carriers. In this position, Ashley supported both individual life insurance advisors and policyholders throughout both the implementation phase of a life insurance policy, as well as with ongoing professional servicing.  In 2009 Ashley transitioned to working with an employee benefits consulting firm and assumed the responsibilities for managing the day-to-day servicing of corporate group benefit and retirement plans. In this position, Ashley was responsible for responding to client inquiries, meeting with policyholders to present experience and utilization reports and following up to ensure client queries and needs were efficiently managed. Ashley was also responsible for performing full market studies, analyses, plan implementations and education sessions for groups ranging in all sizes. Ashley joined Bennett Insurance Agency in 2016 and we are pleased and proud to have someone who is exceptionally well versed in all aspects of benefits and retirement administration with many years of client service experience. Her knowledge and her friendly personality are certainly a winning combination for all.

Bryan Charron

Director, Corporate Development & Strategy, Group Benefits & Retirement

With over 25 years of experience in the employee benefit and retirement sector, Bryan has distinguished himself as a leader in the customer service field. Bryan joined Bennett Insurance in the summer of 2019 as a Senior Account Executive and we are delighted and fortunate to have him as a member of our team. Bryan’s areas of expertise include customer service and benefit plan administration by providing assistance in matters related to industry benchmarking (pension and benefits plans), group renewal evaluations, negotiations and request for tender reports. Of particular note, Bryan also specializes in compliance reporting including the fiduciary governance and best practices pertaining to the ongoing management of group benefits and pension plans. With his wealth of knowledge and friendly approach to customer service, Bryan is able to serve you equally in English, French or Spanish.

Sue Petricca

Account Executive, Group Benefits

Sue is a certified Group Benefit Associate (GBA), a designation achieved through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. In 2022 Sue joined Bennett Insurance Agency as an Account Executive bringing over a decade of experience working in the group benefits industry. Sue’s career began with one of the largest insurance carriers in Canada. Her experience extends to having roles within third party administrators as well as employee benefit consultants. Sue has worked closely with many leading insurance carriers providing full client administration for a variety of benefit plan designs. With customer service a top priority, Sue’s responsibilities have included plan implementation, plan administration, coordinating the submission of claims, and responding to client inquires addressing concerns and providing solutions. With her knowledge, Sue is an extension to your HR team.
